Claxton, the lead brand for Acteon’s Drilling and Decommissioning segment, recently completed two challenging subsea cutting and removal projects within tight timeframes to support their customers with restoring a post-industrial marine environment.
On the first project, the customer required safe removal of firewater caissons and a well slot conductor guide. The challenging nature and the location of the infrastructure required Claxton to apply expert design and engineering experience to modify the field-proven diamond wire saw and milling tool. This enabled the difficult nature of the cutting scope to be mitigated, resulting in reduced cost, complexity, and time to safely remove their offshore infrastructure.
The second project required cutting and retrieval of various spools and pipework. Claxton partnered with the customer to provide an integrated solution. Applying market-leading technology and utilising subsea shears and a diamond wire saw increased efficiency on the project by enabling spool sections and pipework to be cut into manageable removal sizes. Claxton then used a subsea pipe-grab tool to recover the subsea pipelines safely and efficiently to leave a clean seabed and pose no risk to the environment.
