The US offshore wind market has seen a rush of activity over the last few months with several projects receiving approvals from The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) as well as the New York Bight auction, resulting in developers paying unprecedented prices for sites.
In support of the recently approved offshore wind farms, MENCK, the lead brand for Acteon’s Foundations and Cables segment, expects to have at least one of their large 4400KJ hammers operating on projects in the US during the 2024 summer installation window.
MENCK has provided the hammers for the installation of nearly half of all offshore wind farms installed globally, including the first US offshore wind farm in Block Island, Rhode Island in the summer of 2015.
Acteon brands have been operating in the US for many years and provide in-region equipment and personnel including a fleet of pile hammers based at InterMoor’s facility in Fourchon, Louisiana.
Nils Raab, Acteon’s foundation installation expert said; “After many years of operating in the region, we expect renewables in the US to provide a stream of offshore projects, with the MENCK hammer units working continuously. We are also actively working with installation project developers to see how we can support them with our services from the Acteon Foundations and Cables segment such as grouting, pile cleaning, drilling, and lifting equipment.”
