Efficient structural monitoring measurement campaign on the TetraSpar Floating Wind Demonstration Project
Project overview
Project name
TetraSpar Floating Wind Demonstration Project
Developer partners
MET Norway
Solution
Installed three INTEGRIpods at seven measurement points on the TetraSpar demonstrator
Acteon’s Geo-services business line was contracted to provide structural monitoring services for the TetraSpar Floating Wind Demonstration Project.
Understanding how the harsh North Sea conditions affect the structure
The structural monitoring campaign were required by The Marine Energy Test Centre (MET Centre), a world-leading test centre offshore Norway, to capture data of the floating wind structure being subjected to typical Autumn/Winter North Sea conditions.
Our solution
Over 20 sensors deployed and installed in less than a week
Our team provided and installed three INTEGRIpods at seven measurement points on the TetraSpar demonstrator, for a total of 21 sensors. The sensors were installed on the internal and external columns. The project was fulfilled utilising standard monitoring equipment for ease of installation and recovery.
Our team delivered the project in a very tight installation schedule, with a weather window of less than a week. The deployment and installation happened on the back of our impressive track record, having successfully used the INTEGRIpod sensors on hundreds of energy infrastructure projects, from pipeline to risers to fixed offshore structures.
The INTEGRIpod sensors gather valuable data during offshore campaigns to enable improved operational effectiveness and asset life extension. Once they are retrieved from the structure, the data is uploaded to our INTEGRIportal. The customer has full access to this cloud-based infrastructure platform, allowing for useful digital visualisation of the captured data. The measurement campaign lasted for five months.
Innovations in action
We used our rental fleet of well-maintained INTEGRIpod sensors, readily available to deploy, allowing for fast shipment and global mobilisation. They are lightweight, ROV retrievable and use magnetic holders making them easy to deploy, install and remove.
The result
The swift and accurate execution of the structural monitoring campaign was essential to this floating wind pilot project.
The data provided insight into the movement and strain the structure is experiencing and the information helped to validate the foundation’s dynamic models and provide other important learnings applicable to commercial scale floating offshore wind projects.
We are committed to providing excellent customer service and adding value to customers wind assets by obtaining quality data. We are very proud to be associated with the TetraSpar floating offshore wind project and it is a testament to our team that we have been able to execute the supply and installation of this structural health monitoring package timeously, whilst overcoming the challenging weather conditions with no compromise on health, safety, quality or environment. We would like to thank all TetraSpar partners for their collaborative approach and support in ensuring this project’s success.
