Intermoor completing phase 1 pipeline pipe cut recovery offshore thailand

Project overview

Project name

Seamless pipeline tie-in decommissioning and asset transfer

Location

Gulf of Thailand

Water depth

70 m water depth

Solution

Pipeline tie-in disconnections, recovery of subsea structures and the transport of company-owned assets to shore

Intermoor, Acteon’s Moorings and Anchors business line, delivered 46 complex pipeline tie-in disconnections, asset recoveries, and wet storage operations across multiple offshore fields for a major Southeast Asia energy operator.

Adaptability overcame logistical and operational challenges

Managing multiple interim mobilisations and crew rotations, operating a diving support vessel (DSV) near live platforms, executing complex cutting and recovery tasks at pipeline crossings, and handling oversized subsea components meant the team had to plan and react with great flexibility and precision.

Our solution

01End-to-end support

End-to-end support

The project included 46 pipeline tie-in disconnections, recovery of subsea structures and the transport of company-owned assets to shore for storage. Intermoor led the operation, supported by other Acteon business lines.

From the outset, we provided end-to-end support for the decommissioning campaign, seamlessly coordinating all aspects of the process, including:

  • Marine spread chartering and management to ensure operational readiness and minimise downtime.
  • Selection and mobilisation of specialist equipment and tooling tailored to the project’s technical and environmental conditions.
  • Deployment of experienced offshore personnel to manage complex subsea operations safely and efficiently.

We completed 61 subsea cuts in the first phase, 433 subsea cuts in the second phase, with an additional 812 cuts performed from the DSV.

We proactively adapted to evolving offshore challenges through contingency planning and flexible execution. This ensured the project remained on schedule and that all subsea assets were safely recovered and transported to shore, ready for the next phase of asset transfer and disposal.

Midway through operations, the customer expanded the scope of work, prompting rapid adjustments to the offshore execution plan, mobilisation of new equipment, and development of revised procedures.

02Innovations in action

Innovations in action

Our integrated capabilities added measurable value through the deployment of advanced tooling and positioning systems.

UTEC, Acteon’s Geo-Services business line, supplied surface and subsea positioning systems to ensure accurate asset location and recovery, enhancing operational safety and reducing the risk of rework.

We used a diamond wire cutter and chop saw cutter for precise, low-risk subsea pipeline cutting, reducing the need for manual intervention, and a remote friction disc cutter system to segment long pipe sections into manageable lengths, improving deck space efficiency and reducing handling time.

The result

In the end, we recovered and transported:

  • 2,430 Te of steel structures to shore for further processing, following over 40 pipeline tie-in disconnections.
  • 287 Te of marine growth and 386 Te of waste, all safely handled and disposed of in accordance with environmental standards.

Our teams adapted quickly to changing requirements, navigated complex offshore environments and maintained a sharp focus on safety, operational efficiency, schedule integrity and environmental stewardship from start to finish.

This project is a testament to our commitment to providing clients with the highest standard of service, ensuring successful outcomes that align with their strategic goals. Coordination between all companies and crew was managed by Intermoor for an efficient and safe operation.
