Solution

Integrated drilling, grouting and engineering solution

Menck, Acteon’s Marine Foundations business line, alongside 2H, Acteon’s Engineering Consultancy, delivered an integrated drilling and grouting solution for eight offshore mooring piles in 38 m water depth. The work formed a critical part of the foundation installation for the Scarabeo 5 project offshore Congo.

Navigating a critical phase

The project required precise drill-casing operations in a remote offshore location, with complex access constraints and strict pre-operational stability requirements to ensure safe execution.

Our solution

01Integrated marine foundations solution

Integrated marine foundations solution

We delivered a fully integrated drilled and grouted solution for this technically demanding offshore foundation project, supported by detailed pre-operational stability analysis undertaken by our engineering specialists at 2H.

Offshore operations were delivered using the MDR-040 drill rig, completing eight sockets to 2.46 m internal diameter and 26 m depth. Real-time drilling performance was monitored through the Jean Lutz data system, while rig handling and motion control were stabilised using Menck’s PHC60 passive heave compensator.

To meet project-specific interface requirements, we adapted both the Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) and hydraulic gripper can, ensuring full compatibility with the client-supplied piles and project requirements.

Grouting operations were carried out using the recirculating jet mixing (RJM) system, supported by cement silos and a fully equipped offshore laboratory to provide continuous quality control throughout installation.

By combining engineering analysis, customised tooling, drilling, lifting and grouting services under a single integrated solution, we delivered a safe, efficient and high-quality offshore foundation installation and reduced interface risk.

The result

The Scarabeo 5 mooring pile installation was completed safely, with all eight sockets drilled and grouted to full depth and diameter and executed to specification. Continuous data monitoring and on-site laboratory testing ensured consistent quality throughout the campaign.

The integrated approach across our engineering and offshore execution teams enabled efficient delivery in a challenging environment, achieving high-quality foundations and full client acceptance while maintaining safe offshore performance.
