Solution

Mooring line replacement

Intermoor, Acteon’s Mooring and Anchors business line, replaced a damaged top wire on an offshore platform in Brazil, delivering a full project scope including engineering, fabrication, and offshore operations.

Safe execution around legacy infrastructure

Working carefully near an active, ageing platform in a congested field, we ensured safe and uninterrupted production in the face of difficult working conditions through efficient logistics, careful planning and custom-designed equipment.

Precision-engineered mooring replacement

We delivered the full scope of work for this time-sensitive operation: designing and fabricating bespoke equipment, mobilising from our Porto do Açu facility, and managing the entire offshore campaign. The work took place on a 57-year-old platform used for water separation, requiring the team to work with caution in close proximity to operating infrastructure.

Challenges included winch speed limitations, restricted weather windows, and the need to avoid any interruption to production. A bespoke 95-mm H-Link mooring connector was fabricated for the job, and a 150-te spooling machine was mobilised to support offshore operations.

Our pre-project coordination with multiple suppliers ensured readiness at every stage. The suitability of the anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel was confirmed in advance, and marine growth was cleared using third-party hydroblast equipment. All crew, including port and installation personnel, were briefed in detail to ensure a seamless operation.

Drawing on our global experience and local infrastructure, we completed the offshore operation in just 45 hours - enabling the operator to meet integrity targets without disruption. The project’s success led to follow-on work, including the development of a mooring incident response plan.

Innovations in action

  • Designed and delivered a bespoke 95-mm H-Link in-house, ensuring quality control and quick turnaround
  • Used a 150-te spooling machine to handle the replacement wire
  • Streamlined logistics and enabled rapid deployment by staging all equipment and personnel through our Porto do Açu facility

The result

We safely and efficiently replaced the damaged top wire in under two days, despite operating next to a live, ageing platform in a constrained area. The project was executed without disrupting production, showcasing our ability to coordinate complex logistics and deliver precision-engineered solutions in live offshore environments. The operator awarded follow-up work, confirming confidence in our capabilities.
