Solution

6 m diameter monopile installation

Menck, Acteon’s Marine Foundations business line, delivered a customised hydraulic hammer spread to support the installation of 72 6-m coated monopiles on Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, Kriegers Flak.

Maintaining speed and efficiency

To maintain the desired installation rate of one monopile every 24 hours, Van Oord required proven offshore foundation capabilities and equipment that could operate without interruption.

Minimising downtime and maintaining performance

We supplied our MHU 3500S hydraulic hammer, modified with a bespoke pile sleeve to drive the 6-m diameter coated monopiles, alongside complete support services. The system was powered by three MHP 1600 power packs and supported by a 2.5-inch hose spread. The scope of services included project management, engineering, equipment modification and preparation, logistics, commissioning, and the offshore operation of the hammer spread by expert technicians.

To maintain the required monopile installation rate and deliver added value, we focused on ensuring the continuous operational readiness of the hammer spread. Onsite personnel carried out pre- and post- installation equipment inspections with precision and accuracy, supported by onshore subject matter expertise and spare part management. This coordinated approach helped minimise downtime and sustain performance throughout the project.

Innovations in action

  • Custom-engineered MHU 3500S hydraulic hammer with advanced monitoring supported faster installation
  • Near real-time data tracking enabled early issue detection and reduced downtime
  • Bespoke equipment mods and proactive logistics maintained high operational efficiency

The result

Our tailored hammer spread and efficient offshore execution enabled Van Oord to install 72 monopiles in record time with zero unplanned downtime. This streamlined delivery reduced cost and complexity for the client while meeting their expectations with the project delivery from start to finish.

Through our extensive experience, advanced equipment and intelligent approach, we developed an innovative, customised solution that maximised Van Oord’s project uptime.
