Solution

Anchor pile installation

We delivered a complete anchor pile installation in a challenging seabed environment in the Caribbean Sea, using our reverse circulation drill rig with a motion compensation platform.

Overcoming a challenging sloped seabed

Water depths between 80 and 300 m, wave conditions up to 2.5 Hs and a rocky seabed sloped to 20 degrees meant that conventional methods for reverse circulation weren’t suitable.

Integrated project delivery tackles complexity

To support this complex operation, we delivered a complete solution, including

  • Geophysical and geotechnical survey work
  • Seabed assessment and analysis
  • Design and engineering applicable to the pile installation
  • Pile handling, mobilisation, and drilling
  • Pile grouting of seven piles
  • Diving support and construction vessel (DSCV) charter, offshore crew and project management

Menck, Acteon’s Marine Foundations business line, mobilised their grouting plant from the DSCV’s back deck, enabling rapid execution -completing each pile’s grouting in under 24 hours. The whole solution, including the drill, was entirely bespoke to project demands.

Throughout the project, we provided Imodco Terminals with a single point of contact, which simplified tendering, commercial negotiations and contractual dealings and avoided potential gaps between service providers.

Innovations in action

We integrated our reverse circulation LD2500 drill rig with a motion compensation platform, allowing the drill system to maintain a constant and stabilised position in relation to the seabed. The project proved that drilling could be achieved from a floating asset using motion compensation – a world first.

The result

Our advanced anchor pile engineering and installation methods allowed Imodco Terminals to successfully install the catenary anchor leg mooring (CALM) buoy at Limetree Bay to facilitate the reliable transfer of products from very large crude carriers to an onshore facility. The all-around customised solution overcame a challenging offshore environment - delivering a world-first achievement, while simplifying client engagement and completing the project safely and reliably.
