Solution

Rocksteady® RSL 500 lift tools

Menck, Acteon’s Marine Foundations business line, supplied two Rocksteady® RSL 500 lift tools and receptacles to safely install pile-top drilling rigs on a gas field offshore Western Australia.

Navigating a critical phase

The customer needed to lift heavy pile-top rigs from mast crowns high above deck level, requiring precise, safe, and efficient offshore rigging solutions.

Reliable offshore lifting solution

We delivered two Rocksteady® RSL 500 hydraulically operated lift tools and matching receptacles, engineered to meet the specific requirements of HMH Wirth’s drilling rigs. Each system featured radio remote-control lock verification, enabling operators to connect and disconnect safely from a distance, eliminating the need for manual sling handling at height.

The Rocksteady® system’s fail-safe mechanical locking mechanism remains engaged even under full load during a power loss, with a manual override available for controlled disconnection. Pre-installed receptacles reduced sling lengths, removed hook height restrictions, and streamlined rigging operations. The design’s wide funnels and capture angles accommodated offshore motion, ensuring smooth engagement even from floating vessels.

With a decade-long track record across global offshore projects, Rocksteady® has proven itself as a reliable quick-connect lifting solution. By deploying this system, we enabled the customer to complete lifts safely, efficiently, and with reduced risk while also cutting project costs and avoiding delays.

Innovations in action

  • Rocksteady® RSL 500 hydraulically operated lift tools with radio remote-control lock verification
  • Fail-safe locking mechanism with manual override capability
  • Pre-installed receptacles to minimise sling use and hook height challenges
  • Offshore-ready design with wide funnels and capture angles for dynamic environments

The result

The Rocksteady® system delivered secure, hands-free lifting of pile-top rigs from challenging mast crown positions, reducing manual rigging and boosting safety. Pre-installed receptacles and fail-safe locking cut rigging hours and improved efficiency, saving costs and avoiding downtime. The system’s reliability and adaptability ensured continuity of lifting operations, giving the customer confidence in safe, timely delivery of their offshore gas field development.
