Efficient mooring chain inspection and replacement for FPSO in UK North Sea

Delivering assurance through integrated mooring services

Acteon provided end-to-end services, including engineering, project management, vessel sourcing, offshore personnel, and equipment. The team conducted as-found surveys, recovered three mooring lines for ultra-high-pressure cleaning and inspection, replaced necessary chain sections, and reinstated the system to its original position. The remaining lines were inspected subsea. 

Despite challenges such as heavy marine growth and limited payout from the FPSO, detailed offshore planning enabled safe, efficient operations. We replaced chains with minimal use of additional connectors to preserve system integrity. All activities were completed in line with DNV standards and without impacting FPSO production, allowing NEO Energy to confidently plan its projects and optimise production through operational uptime.

Ultra-high-pressure cleaning systems enabled effective marine growth removal for inspection. Strategic planning and prior project experience allowed us to optimise vessel selection and minimise downtime.

The result

The project was delivered on time, with no safety incidents or impact on FPSO production. Our inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) expertise and familiarity with the GP3 system enabled a successful mooring inspection and life extension campaign. Our approach enables data-driven decision making, allowing NEO Energy to act with confidence and precision.
