Supporting delivery of a £15m project to replace pipes under the Solent

Aquatic has enabled Dutch specialist cable and pipeline installation contractor, Visser and Smit Hanab, to support the delivery of a £15m project.

THE PROJECT

Aquatic was approached to assist and enable Visser and Smit Hanab for the client, Southern Water, to replace pipes under the Solent, delivering drinking water to the Isle of Wight. Aquatic’s operations team joined Visser and Smit Hanab’s people on board the barge to ensure the operation went smoothly, enabling the pipes to be laid successfully. During the installation, the pipes were trenched to protect them from potential damage in this busy stretch of commercial water.

SCOPE

Two type 9.8m reels, an AQPR02 drive system, an AQPRTS track system and a two tracked tensioner unit, were sea fastened to the deck of a dumb barge at our marine facility in Peterhead for transit to Denmark.

THE RESULT

The new pipes were trans-spooled onto the reels and the barge, complete with installation spread, this was then towed to the Solent for the product installation phase.
