InterMoor provides in-shore moorings for Hywind Tampen floating wind turbines

OUR SOLUTION AND ITS COMMERCIAL BENEFITS

InterMoor AS supplied equipment to moor the four units.

The total package of equipment required:

  • Eight 15Ton anchors
  • 10,000 meters of 76mm dia. R4 chain
  • All connections including shackles, kenters and swivels.

All four wind turbines were connected to the prelay mooring spreads in September 2022 and will be secured to the moorings until spring 2023 when the units will be towed to Tampen Field and installed offshore with the other seven units.

Logistics was a key component for success. The equipment provided was from the InterMoor base at Sløvåg which is where the units were assembled and commissioned. This enabled Equinor to utilise vessels performing other operations to assist with this installation during spare time slots.

Work at scale with a proven track record for delivery

InterMoor has over 30 years of experience working in Norway and has a large inventory of mooring equipment at two large shore bases in the country. They move an average of one million meters of chain each year.

Operational bases across the world

For over three decades, InterMoor in Norway has been delivering mooring equipment to projects inshore and offshore along the Norwegian coastline. Their shore-based facility at Wergeland base in Sløvåg allows them access to eight deepwater quays, priority berthing and dedicated heavy lift and chain handling equipment.

The availability of the equipment on site as well as their local personnel experienced in load-out services, allowed the InterMoor team to ease logistics, minimise mobilisation time and ensure reliability.

Combine digital technology and data to enhance our expertise

All equipment provided by InterMoor AS is tagged using radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, which ensures the quality of the identification of equipment and enhances mobilisation and demobilisation processes at the quayside, in their yard and offshore for easy identification using RIFD readers and iPads.

A SOLUTION FOR THE FUTURE

“We are honoured to work on this vanguard project. There is no doubt that fjord moorings will become the norm for future floating wind projects during the construction phase”, says David Smith, Managing Director, InterMoor AS. “Future projects are currently being evaluated and the experience gained from mooring the Tampen Hywind project will be of real value for us and our ability to advise our customers for selecting safe and cost-effective mooring solutions.”
